BARGAINING UNIT QUALIFICATION STANDARD
(0301-07XX) MAINTENANCE CONTROL TECHNICIAN
December 31, 1990
Performs a variety of activities involved in the control and scheduling
of maintenance operations at an office which utilizes the National
Maintenance Information and Control System (NMICS).
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

This section is composed of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
which are required to satisfactorily perform the tasks of the position.
Applicants must demonstrate that they possess a sufficient level of each
KSA, to include at least minimum competency for senior-qualified
positions to enable them to perform these tasks satisfactorily.
Applicants demonstrate these levels by describing examples of
experience, education, or training, any of which may be non-postal.
Ratings are based on the demonstration of the level of possession of
each of the KSAs. Failure to demonstrate any KSA is disqualifying.

Applicants must have two years of general office type experience.
Successful completion of high school course work may be substituted for
general experience at the rate of nine months of experience for each
academic year of education up to the maximum of two years of required
In addition, applicants must have six months of specialized experience
performing computer input or familiarity with handbook MS-63 procedures
in such areas as maintenance control, stock work, inventory work,
shipping and receiving, manpower, dispatching, or quality control.
Substitution of education for specialized experience is not appropriate
for this position.
Business courses in a relevant area may also be substituted for general
experience at the rate of three months of experience for each completed
The required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted
as proof of qualification. The applicant's record of employment and
training must show the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Applicants must demonstrate the ability to key data on a computer
terminal at a rate of 25 correct lines within five minutes. This must be
demonstrated by successful completion of Postal Service Test 714 at the
low standard. Certificates of proficiency are not acceptable.
Applicants must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of
the position. Vision of 20/40 (Snellen) in one eye and ability to read
without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters are
required. Corrective lenses are permitted. Ability to distinguish basic
colors and shades is desirable. Ability to hear the conversational voice
is required; hearing aids are permitted.
