FUNCTION:
 
Drives heavy trucks in the transportation of heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies between the various metropolitan office sites and warehouses in outlying areas. This position provides services for Postal Service Headquarters, L'Enfant Plaza.

REQUIREMENTS:
 
This section is composed of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) which are required to satisfactorily perform the tasks of the position. Applicants must demonstrate that they possess a sufficient level of each KSA, to include at least minimum competency for senior-qualified positions to enable them to perform these tasks satisfactorily. Applicants demonstrate these levels by describing examples of experience, education, or training, any of which may be non-postal. Ratings are based on the demonstration of the level of possession of each of the KSAs. Failure to demonstrate any KSA is disqualifying.
 
General B-4. Ability to work without immediate supervision.
 
B-9. Safety in performance of duties common to the position.
 
B-29. Knowledge of materials commonly utilized in the particular position.
 
B-44. Ability to personally resolve problems of a routine nature.
 
B-48. Ability to handle weights and loads, beyond "normal" type functions of a position.
 
B-53. Ability to work with others.
 
Special Applicants must have the ability to drive under local driving conditions.
 
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 
At least one year full-time, or equivalent, driving trucks up to and including 5-ton weight. Those who pass the Postal Service Road Test will be considered to have met the experience requirement for a 5-ton vehicle.
 
Note: The required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification. The applicant's record of experience and training must show the ability to perform the duties of the position.
 
EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
 
Eligibles certified to the appointing officer and being considered for appointment must pass the Postal Service Road Test to show that they can safely drive a vehicle of the type used on the job. If an applicant fails the road test the first time, the applicant cannot be hired but may be given a second chance at a later date.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
Applicant must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
 
ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS:
 
Applicants must have a valid state driver's license, and demonstrate and maintain a safe driving record. Applicants must pass the Postal Service road test to show the ability to safely drive a vehicle of the type used on the job.
