QUALIFICATION STANDARDS DOCUMENT DATE: October 20, 2017 FUNCTION In connection with property owned, occupied, or controlled by the Postal Service, enforces Federal laws and regulations for the protection of persons and property, consistent with statutory and regulatory authority, ensures safety and security of personnel, customers, property, and mail. KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: This section is composed of Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) that are required to satisfactorily perform the tasks of the position. Individuals must demonstrate a minimum level of their proficiency through successful completion of the applicable testing and interview procedure(s). 1. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply written instructions, policies, and regulations. 2. Ability to communicate and interact professionally with employees and customers. 3. Ability to communicate in writing sufficient to prepare reports which present information in a clear, concise manner with proper grammar and punctuation. 4. Ability to critically evaluate situations to identify alternative solutions. 5. Ability to maintain composure when responding to dangerous and volatile situations. 6. Ability to recall situations sufficient to document information related to ongoing interactions and events. 7. Ability to anticipate potential situations and reactions of others sufficient to identify and apply appropriate emotional response (e.g., empathy). 8. Ability to interact and resolve problems and/or disputes with individuals in different cultures and social groups. EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must successfully pass Postal Service Exam 630. In addition, applicants must successfully complete a structured interview evaluation and writing exercise. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must successfully complete the Postal Police Officer Basic Training. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet minimum physical ability requirements as measured by a physical ability assessment. ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS: 1. Applicants must possess a valid state driver's license and have a safe driving record for two (2) years or more. 2. Applicants must obtain and maintain certification in First Aid / Basic Life Support in accordance with US Postal Inspection Service Standards. 3. Applicants must obtain and maintain qualification and proficiency in the use of firearms in accordance with US Postal Inspection Service Standards. 4. Applicants must be willing to submit to a High Risk ground Investigation (BI). This investigation requires, among other things, completion of a questionnaire and fingerprinting for a criminal records check. The investigation may require a drug test. The successful applicant will be required to meet and maintain the requirements of this level of background investigation while holding this position. |
