| FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE: Performs cleaning activities, routine maintenance, and light repairs associated with the custody of the authorized areas of the buildings, grounds, and equipment of a postal facility. Provides guidance, instruction, and oversight to lower-level custodians in the absence of a supervisor. OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In accordance with specific instructions, or well-defined work assignments furnished by supervisor, may oversee the work of approximately 15 custodians performing general laboring and cleaning duties. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Cleans and maintains facilities to include, but not limited to, common areas, restrooms, kitchens, offices, and customer facing spaces surfaces following postal policy and safety guidelines to ensure a welcoming and sanitary environment for customers and employees. Washes walls, ceilings, and windows from elevated surfaces such as ladders, and scaffolding. 2. Cleans and maintains floors to include sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and polishing, etc. Applies floor care products such as sealers, strippers, and finish. Removes debris and trash and recycles materials as appropriate. 3. Operates industrial cleaning and maintenance equipment including, but not limited to, backpack vacuums, carpet cleaners , floor scrubbers, floor sanders, and wall washers; adjusts brushes, buffers, and other attachments on machines. 4. Maintains facility grounds using landscaping and cleaning equipment including, but not limited to, lawnmowers, edgers, weed eaters, blowers, and pressure washers. Cleans sidewalks and driveways and removes debris, snow and ice. 5. Makes or assists in making minor maintenance repairs to building and equipment using hand tools and small power tools. Maintains and cleans equipment and tools, parts, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safe and efficient operations. Maintains custody of necessary equipment, tools and supplies; uses washing machines, dryers as appropriate to clean and sanitize supplies. 6. Performs general laboring duties such as uncrating and assembling furniture and fixtures using bolts and screws for assembly, loading and unloading supplies and equipment, and moving furniture and equipment. Stacks and organizes supplies in storage rooms and on shelves and replenishes cleaning and sanitary supplies and dispensers. 7. Operates regulated machines and equipment, per current license and authorization, such as elevated platforms, PIT (Power Industrial Truck) equipment, and forklifts. May drive an authorized vehicle to clear snow, ice, transport supplies and equipment, as well as to perform cleaning tasks off campus. 8. Completes or initiates work requests, logs, and required records to track and document custodial and maintenance activities; uses computer-based systems such as computerized maintenance management system. Communicates status updates and scheduled custodial and maintenance activities to fellow employees and management. 9. Observes established safety practices and requirements to ensure the safety of self and others while performing custodial and maintenance activities (e.g., puts tools and equipment away, inspects tools and equipment for proper serviceability, maintains and uses issued personal protective equipment [PPE]), and creates safety zones for various cleaning and maintenance activities such as, but not limited to, waxing floors, and high dusting. 10. Participates in training programs, classroom, on-the-job, and onsite at postal facilities using relevant systems and applications. Completes required testing and certifications associated with training satisfactorily in a timely manner. 11. Performs other related duties to include operating elevators, as assigned. 12.
