CUSTODIAL LABORER C (K7-04)

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:
 
Performs cleaning activities, routine maintenance, and light repairs associated with the custody of the buildings, grounds, and equipment of a postal facility.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
 
This position is for use at Headquarters and Headquarters related facilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
 
1.   Cleans and maintains facility common areas including, but not limited to, restrooms, kitchens, offices, and customer facing spaces surfaces following postal policy and safety guidelines to ensure a welcoming and sanitary environment for customers and employees. Washes walls, ceilings, and windows from elevated surfaces such as ladders, and scaffolding.
 
2.   Cleans and maintains floors to include sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, etc. Applies floor care products such as sealers, strippers, and finish. Removes debris and trash and recycles materials as appropriate.
 
3.   Operates industrial cleaning and maintenance equipment such as backpack vacuums, carpet cleaners, floor scrubbers, floor sanders and wall washers; adjusts brushes, buffers, and other attachments on machines.
 
4.   Maintains facility grounds using landscaping and cleaning equipment such as lawnmowers, edgers, weed eaters, blowers, and pressure washers. Cleans sidewalks and driveways and removes debris, snow and ice.
 
5.   May make or assist in making minor maintenance repairs to building and equipment using hand tools and small power tools. Maintains and cleans equipment and tools, parts, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safe and efficient operations. Maintains custody of necessary equipment, tools and supplies.
 
6.   Performs general laboring duties such as uncrating and assembling furniture and fixtures using bolts and screws for assembly, loading and unloading supplies and equipment, and moving furniture and equipment. Stacks and organizes supplies in storage rooms and on shelves and replenishes cleaning and sanitary supplies and dispensers.
 
7.   May operate regulated machines and equipment, per current license and authorization, such as elevated platforms, PIT (Powered Industrial Truck) equipment, and forklifts. May drive an authorized vehicle to clear snow and ice or transport supplies and equipment.
 
8.   Communicates status updates and scheduled custodial and maintenance activities to fellow employees and management.
 
9.   Observes established safety practices and requirements to ensure the safety of self and others while performing custodial and maintenance activities (e.g., puts tools and equipment away)inspects tools and equipment for proper serviceability, maintains and uses issued personal protective equipment [PPE]) , and creates safety zones for various cleaning and maintenance activities such as, but not limited to, waxing floors, and high and high dusting.
 
10.   Participates in training programs, classroom, on-the-job, and onsite at postal facilities using relevant systems and applications. Completes required testing and certifications associated with training satisfactorily in a timely manner.
 
11.   Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISION:
 
Reports to supervisor of unit to which assigned.

SELECTION METHOD:
 
Senior Qualified when filled from the same level and occupational group (preferred duty assignment). Best Qualified when filled from any other position.
